Trae’s interdisciplinary practice interrogates the representation of the Black lesbian existence on the page and stage, with a focus on the intersections of their identity, memory, mythology, and migration. At the center of Trae’s contextual practice is a radical curiosity about what it means to exist in these bodies that carry the inherited weight of our foremothers and forefathers while navigating the digital dimension. Channeling their Gullah Geechee roots, Trae pays homage to Black and Indigenous ancestral rituals, integrating the secular with the sacred to create immersive worlds where spectators and participants can see themselves reflected in their own cosmic divinity. At the center of their work is a radical curiosity about what it means to be alive, to remember, and to imagine otherwise.

In 2024, Trae initiated an ongoing research-based conversation and storytelling series focused on Black queer intimacy ((love)) as a modality of freedom.
